Haifa - Acre - Caesarea
Israel is unique with its ancient culture sites and beautiful landscapes. We invite you on a tour that will take you to the archaeological park of Caesarea, terraces of the Bahá'í gardens in Haifa and also to the ancient city of Acre ashore the Mediterranean Sea.
The tour starts with visiting Caesarea. During its golden age this city had more than one hundred thousand inhabitants. It was founded by Herod the Great; later it had become the capital of Judea. It endured the times of Byzantium, Muslim and Crusaders rule. During the Byzantium period cloisters, churches and aqueduct for water from Mount Carmel were built.
Nowadays in Caesarea you can see the ruins of an ancient Roman forum and an ancient hippodrome, mosaics at the floors of the thermaes, antique theater and moreover towers and gates built by the crusaders. Archaeologists found them around fifty years ago.
Today the Caesarea is a national park and studied by the archaeologists pretty well, but their work here still hasn’t stopped. A walk along the seaside and enjoying the beauty of Mediterranean Sea will complete your impression of the city.
Next stop of the tour are the terraces of Bahá'í gardens in Haifa. Going up from Mount Carmel’s foot you will be able to enjoy the views of the lower part of the gardens and splendid main fountain and after that go to the garden of cactuses, small inside garden and a central part of the complex. The real gem of the gardens is the Universal Hall of Justice, there is a body of Bahá'u'lláh, the founder of the Bahá'í Faith. This building topped with gilded dome has become the signature of Haifa. Rising to the observation desk with panoramic view of Bahá'í gardens, Mount Carmel, the Galilee and the Haifa Bay will finish this part of the tour.
Second part of the day will be spent in Acre. The city starts with the old port. Here the heritage of Turks and the Crusaders exist side by side: the first ones gave towers and the famous markets to the city, the other ones, who used to call this place St. John d'Acre, built the castle of Hospitallers, Teuton’s underground tunnel and trading stations, found by archaeologists. Ancient walls seem to be every in Akko and narrow streets – the sights of the Turkish period in the history of the city – make an incredibly comfortable atmosphere. The sea and a wharf make Acre even more picturesque.
