“The effectiveness of the product Vigamox (moxifloxacin) for  preventions of infectious inflammatory complications in ophthalmosurgery”

The effectiveness of the product Vigamox (moxifloxacin) for  prevention of infectious inflammatory complications in ophthalmosurgery was estimated during the treatment of  574 patients with cataract and ametropy. High tolerability of the product, absence of subjective complaints during installations, uncomplicated postoperative period after phacoes and refractive surgeries allow to recommend it for prevention of bacterial infection.

The purpose of the work is to evaluate the effectiveness of the product Vigamox  (moxifloxacin) for  prevention of infectious inflammatory complications in ophthalmosurgery.

The results

Clinically the early postoperative period was areactive for most patients. The analyse of IOP, vision, results of biomicroscopy did not reveal any of pathological changes, associated with the local use of Vigamox. At the same time in the majority of the cases there was no pericorneal injection into the eyebulb during all types of surgeries. The cornea retained its transparency or it had the slight swelling in the area of surgery incision after phacoes, after refractive surgeries and implantations intrastromal rings for treatment the keratoconus.

After the phaco the moisture in the anterior chamber of the eye was transparent in the most cases, and only 3% had Tindall’s effect of 1-2 degree. In the setting of moxifloxacin installations (up to 6-8 times a day), glucocorticoid installations, NSA and cycloplegics the inflammatory response was managed to stop in 2-3 days.

Discussion

In the treatment practice Vigamox (moxifloxacin) was assigned for 2 days before surgery and for a week after it. The product tourned out sparing for treatment the ocular surface. The most patients pointed to high subjective tolerability of the product. Hypotoxicity of Vigamox (moxifloxacin) is caused by high solubility in neutral pH. Clinically the most of patients did not have the injection of eye-bulb and the swelling of the cornea. Only about 65 of the patients had Tindall’s effect of 1-2 degree.
